blog 11/12

What concerns do you have about it? What do / don't you like about research? What can I do, other than cancel the assignment, to help alleviate some of the stress associated with writing a research paper?

my concern for this research has to be finding the right articles and using it correctly. Sometimes, I find myself  reading this great article and later, figure out that it had nothing to do with my research topic even though it seems like it. I think university helped me to realize that internet is not the only great resource even though we can find articles faster and university library is different from small high school library. I think this assignment will help me to learn more about resources that university offer. I think the library session we had really helped me.

if i cold ban one thing...

If I could ban one thing, I would like to ban jealousy. It it true that sometimes jealousy can help people to do better and make competition between their friends. But, too much of this could hurt someone too. I like to think that Jealousy can easily break the friendship or even important bonds people had. Jealousy can also hurt oneself and lower his or her self confidence, thinking they are good enough or not important in this world compared to others. I always believe that jealousy is the worst thing because it eventually sums up the personality characteristics that most people have and think its important. Therefore, I would like to ban jealousy so that everyone can think they are important and not lose their confidence and always have pride.

number eight

its another free day. what should i write this time. I can't think of anything other than a lot of homework I have before spring break. I guess it didn't sound that much when I first got the assignments but now that I'm facing due dates one by one, it seems a lot. My mom always tells me that one of the habits I have to fix is doing everything at the last minute. In college, its called "procrastinating." when my sister was in college, I really didn't understand why she had to put all nighter to do her homework and stuff but now, I totally understand why she had to have so many red bulls with her. I feel like i am experiencing what college is really about, its about the time management and I have to deal with every consequences and with more responsibilities. writing this made me realize how many stuff i have to do but than I can't wait till spring break  =D

You need to write about heroes who were considered disobedient and the impact that they have had on the world as a result of that disobedience.

she may not sound hero, but she was a hero to a lot of teenagers or even girls. the hero i want to talk about it Britney Spears. she was one of the female artist who spent most of her life as a singer. her first debut song, "baby one more time" music video is filmed in the school with her wearing her version of the uniform. this one singe music video gave an image to the students thinking they could change uniform too. people looked up to her saying things like she survived the "real world" in early age or she is really good at what she is doing. she has a title of pop sensation. On the other hand, she is an example of Tyranny of the majority to the society. There were times when teenagers' wanted to be just like her. But now, she is known as just "troublemaker." Teenagers are began to see that the person who they thought hero are no longer hero. Now, to those teenagers' moms, Britney spears is person that they wish their children won't become.

Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart said that "Censorship reflects a society's lack of confidence in itself. It is a hallmark of an authoritarian regime.” Do you agree or disagree with his opinion? Why?

According to the dictionary.com, censor is defined as "any person who supervises the manners or morality of others." If this is the job of censor, then what Potter Stewart said is true or I agree. Personally, I am bad at picking something and i tend to be a follower. Whenever my parents ask me, what I want for dinner, my answer would be "i don't care or I don't know." On the other hand, my brother can make up his mind easily and sometimes, he can make change our mind. I thought this could be a example of what this quote means. If the censor's idea is strong enough and can even manipulate the idea so it sounds right to change other's mind, then this shows that other people lost their confident and just follow whatever the censor told them. I think censorship exist because society is lacking enough confident to let one group or even person to change its mind.

assignment 5

The group founded by Mel and Norma Gabler has had a greater impact on the textbook adoption policy than any other. Although the founders are now dead, the group they founded is still flourishing. Discuss at least one good and one bad aspect of the work that the Gablers have done through the years.

After reading this book, i personally thought what they did actually helped the "textbook adoption policy". The one good thing that they did was they expanded the idea for the textbook adoption policy, how everything should be taught equally and textbook shouldn't leave anything. On the other hand, the one bad aspect is that ever since, their 'foundation" got bigger, by saying, their thoughts are always right, they began to force people's opinion and how the school should teach their ways. Milton wouldn't have like this way because he agrees that tyranny of majority shouldn't exist.

assignment #4

what am I going to write about...I'm really bad at picking something. the one thing that I can think about right now is spring break. I think this year, spring break is kind of early i think because of the easter. This year, easter week is the third week of March. I don't have any special plan but I don't want to stay at home for whole week. Somehow, I feel like I need to do something this year. Both my sister and dad is going to get their break too, so our family can spend more time together. On the other hand, I still have to do my fieldwork/service learning for my EDEL class. If we are not doing anything, I might just do some fieldwork, which might help me. I can't wait for the spring break even though its just a week :)

assignment # 3

How does this image represent John Stuart Mill's ideas of the dangers of popular opinion and Tyranny of the Majority? Use one example from contemporary American society to support your point.
According to John Mill, the tyranny of the majority defines as when people have money, access to media and power, they use these to get people's attention and force others to believe what they believe. This picture represent this idea because it looks like people are falling off the cliff even though it is wrong but they fall because person in front them is falling too. The concept of cult is same thing as this picture. Members of the cult know that things are wrong but they do it because the leader told them to do it. In worst case, this leads to death of all members of the cult. They killed themselves because the leader told them to do it and others were doing it. In America society, Tyranny of the majority works best in media. For example, parents pay almost thousand dollars on Hannah Montana concerts just for their children. Hannah Montana was just another Disney Channel TV show. Her tour is number one among the kids and her movie is number one in America. Parents know that she is 15 years old but they still pay all those money for their children to take them to concert, buy her CD and now even dolls. This shows even though people know that she is just singer and actor, children wanting to become just like her and traveling Across the America just to see her concert, it proves how strong the media or one "pop sensation" kid can affect on children's life.

about Milton...

According to Milton, why or how does truth become a "heresy" if a person only believes things because his pastor or his government tells him so?
According to Milton, people have a tendency to believe things that pastor or his government tells them because their position is higher. This tells people that pastor or government had a better education. Also, people believe them because these are the people they look up to and think only people they can rely on. This is same concept as little kids believing everything that parents told them and realizing that parents are not always right when they grow up.

Why does Milton find that dangerous?
As I mentioned above, the pastor and government cannot always be right. Milton believed that in life, there are things that government should not interfere and censorship tests people's own faith. Because church and government is not always right, after people made certain decisions based on what they  were believing and found out that they could have mad better decision, it is easier for regular people to feel somewhat betrayed because what they used to believe is not right. Another point that Milton made is that government and church cannot take away people's voice and decision. They also cannot force them to believe.

Do you agree with Milton? Why
I agree with Milton because it is true that there should be a line between how far government and church can interfere with people's lives. Everyone has their own opinions and they cannot be always be same because they all have a logical reason why they believe that way and others cannot really force them to change their opinions because they think their ideas are always correct. Also, personally I think that there are reasons why we have first amendment and bill of rights because it it important to give citizens a chance to present their opinions.
